Have you noticed that the lavatory on the Twentieth-Century Classic cover looks a bit like a sad clown? I wonder if that's deliberate.

I hadn't, but now you point it out the clown is inescapable. Whether it was intentional, I couldn't say. According to the back cover, the photograph is by Paul Citroen, "The Toilet in the Schröder House", 1928: he was quite a serious artist, and a clown trouvé isn't in keeping with the stuff of his that shows up on Google.
