Biography

Robert Hanks is one of the new polymaths. Journalist, writer, scientist, thinker, actor, soldier, wit - he has been all and more....

Until the beginning of 2009 he was a columnist for the Independent newspaper, writing about radio, television, film, theatre, books of many kinds, and bicycles. Since being downsized, he sits in a tall house in a shabby street in east London thinking beautiful thoughts and writing some of them down for anyone who will pay - that includes Eye magazine, the New Statesman, the Daily Telegraph, the New York Times Book Review and the London Review of Books. He also teaches in the Graphic Design department at Central St. Martin's, and was a judge for last year's Arthur C. Clarke Award for science-fiction and Grierson Documentary Awards. He has done some bits of broadcasting for BBC radio, mainly in conjunction with the producer Tim Dee.
